Technion, Haifa, Israel

The idea motivating this workshop is to bring together people who have experience thinking about Heegaard splittings so that they can share their knowledge and points of view about some major unsolved problems in the area. The hope is that such a gathering will result in concrete advances i.e., theorems that will be the result of this shared knowledge. In less fancy words: The meeting will give us an opportunity to pick each others' brains at length with no rush. Ideally speakers should also discuss thoughts /ideas/ approaches to problems they are interested in but could not do as well as completed results. In order to facilitate such an interaction the workshop will open with a problem session and then continue with the lectures.

Participants: Dave Bachman, Michel Boileau, Andrew Casson, Mario Eudave Munoz, Cameron Gordon, John Hempel, Tao Li, Yelena Klimenko, Martin Lustig, Sergei Matveev, Yair Minsky, Yoav Moriah, Kanji Morimoto, Peter Ozsvath, Yoav Reick, Hyam Rubinstein, Saul Schleimer, Jennifer Schultens, Eric Sedgwick, Peter Shalen, Joan Suoto, Tsuyoshi Kobayashi, Genevieve Walsh, Richard Weidmann.

There will be a $100 registration fee payable at the conference registration desk on the opening day of the conference
